Hanging baskets for pegboard

I grew up on a farm in Kansas. I didn’t hear this as a child but we lived the old saying: use it up, wear it out, make do or do without.

I love finding a sewing project that I want to do, then shopping my stash. I have built of a stash of secondhand, leftover, or given to me fabrics.

For this project, I am needing some specific storage needs met on my pegboard. I searched the internet and found several hanging basket ideas. I combined a couple to make this basket.

I chose a cotton for the outside and a thick upholstery for the inside to give it structure. 2 pieces 8”x16”.

I folded the long sides together and sewed the shorter edges together on both pieces of fabric.

I ironed the seam open (on the cotton, the upholstery resisted all ironing attemps), folded it in half and cut 2 1/4” tall x 2” long squares out of the the bottom on both sides and both fabrics. This is to make boxed corners.

Take the top and fold it over and iron at 1/2”. Fold over the hook and sew it to the top of your outside fabric at the seam.

Put the liner into the bag wrong sides together. Sew around the top, with both fabrics folded over 1/2”.

I love this project. I can see it being very useful in my studio organization This specific basket is a bit too big for this purpose. I plan to make several baskets, playing with smaller dimensions to see what works best for the different things I want to put up - writing utensils, knitting and crochet needles, basting spray and whatever else I can come up with.
